Press Release

1. Background

The exponential growth of the Internet has led to an increasing requirement of IP addresses. However, the current IP address pool is expected to run out in as early as 2008. A new standard of IP addressing, dubbed IPv6, was developed to solve the problem of IP address shortage. Not only does IPv6 offer unimaginably large address space, but IPv6 also improves network efficiency, security, and quality-of-service.
While many countries in Europe and Asia have started IPv6 deployment, Thailand has little awareness of the importance of IPv6. IPv6 network preparation is crucial for growth and competitiveness of the domestic Internet industry. The establishment of Thailand IPv6 Forum in December 2004 signifies that Thailand is now ready to embark upon a journey of promoting IPv6 deployment and IPv6 based applications.
As a result, Thailand IPv6 Forum is organizing an international seminar on gThe First Thailand IPv6 Summith in order to create public awareness about the necessity of IPv6 technology. This will provide a stage for academia, ISPs, telecom operators, software and hardware vendors to learn from one another about IPv6 business opportunities, as well as technical issues regarding IPv6 deployment.

2. Objectives
